  About Us

The Bowers Insurance Agency has been providing insurance services to the Cortland community for four generations, since 1913 when it was founded by Charles Bowers. Ownership over the years passed first to his son, J. Frank Bowers, and then to his grandson, Paul C. Bowers, who incorporated the agency in 1971. In 1981, Paul's son-in-law, Rick Rose took over as President and headed up the agency until 2003, during which time a substancial growth spurt occurred. The following year, Ben Bowers took over the helm after Rick's retirement, became the 4th generation Bowers to lead the agency, and along with his partners-- Gene Francisco, Mike Hillman, and Elmer Kassay-- continues to aggressively grow the business and constantly develop more products and services for our loyal clients. The agency originally specialized in farm insurance, then added full product lines of personal insurance, business insurance, and financials services. In 2006, the agency unveiled a full service Income Tax and Accounting Division to help round out our client offerings, and also expanded into Clarion and Newcastle, Pa. and Boardman, Ohio. Also on tap for 2006 is the development of our Workers Compensation Auditing Department.

Today, Bowers Insurance operates out of a modern 4300 square foot facility in Cortland, Ohio — only two doors down from our original location. The Bowers Agency is a complete multi-line independent insurance agency, serving customers throughout Ohio and 26 other states. Our professional staff is equipped with a first class automation system to aid in providing the best possible customer service.

We are able to meet virtually any insurance need. However, we have specialty programs and expertise in several areas of coverage. Please visit our commercial page for details.

Aggressive marketing and excellent customer service have enabled the agency to maintain steady growth for more than 85 years.
